Popular Nollywood actress Rita Dominic has recently opened up about her decision to step away from acting in 2001 and 2022 following the death of her mother.
In a candid conversation, Rita shared that she faced immense frustration and turbulent times after her siblings relocated to the UK after their mother’s passing. This left her feeling alone and unsupported, eventually leading her to become homeless and rely on the goodwill of others.
The actress expressed her disillusionment with the slow growth of the Nollywood industry at the time, revealing that the long periods between acting gigs felt unbearable. Additionally, losing close friends who she considered family added to her struggles during this challenging period.
“I found myself losing faith in the slow growth of Nollywood. Waiting months between jobs felt like an eternity. And then I lost some friends I considered family. It was just a very turbulent time in my life, I don’t want to dwell too much on that dark period, but it led me to hit rock bottom in Lagos,” Rita shared.
She went on to disclose that she made the difficult decision to put her acting career on hold and move to London to seek a fresh start. This hiatus from the industry lasted for two years, during which she focused on rebuilding her life and rediscovering her passion for acting.
