Renowned musician Quincy Jones has been nominated for seven Oscars over the past 55 years. Despite never winning a competitive statuette at the Academy Awards, he is set to receive an honorary Oscar this November from the Academy’s Board of Governors. This special recognition is in honor of his significant contributions to the art of film.
Jones will be joined by other esteemed individuals at this year’s Governors Awards ceremony. Casting director Juliet Taylor, filmmaker Richard Curtis, and James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will also be honored for their outstanding work in the industry.
Among the recipients, Jones and Taylor will receive Academy Honorary Awards for their impressive contributions to films such as “In Cold Blood,” “The Wiz,” “The Color Purple,” “Taxi Driver,” “Annie Hall,” “Sleepless in Seattle,” and more. Curtis, known for his work on films like “Notting Hill” and “Love Actually,” will be presented with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for his charitable endeavors.
EON Productions’ Wilson and Broccoli, known for their work on James Bond films like “Casino Royale,” “Skyfall,” and “No Time To Die,” will be honored with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award. Broccoli’s father, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, previously received this prestigious award in 1981.
Academy President Janet Yang praised the recipients, stating, “Their profound love of cinema and indelible contribution to our art form make these five individuals truly deserving of these honors.” The Governors Awards ceremony, which is not televised, will take place on November 17 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles.
