Nollywood actors, Victor Osuagwu and Charles Awurum, have expressed their deep sadness over the passing of their colleague, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu.
In a video shared on Instagram by Osuagwu, the actors revealed that they were in Ghana shooting a movie when they received the heartbreaking news and were unable to join the rest of the cast on set.
Reflecting on Mr. Ibu’s life, Osuagwu said, “The Nollywood industry was plunged into sorrow. It was a huge shock to lose one of our own, a brother, a colleague, and a comedy legend. The entertainment world has lost a gem.
“There are individuals who will always remember Mr. Ibu for bringing laughter, joy, and healing into their homes.”
Awurum added, “It was a terrible day. The news hit us hard. We were unable to continue shooting because we were in a location in Ghana at the time.
“Today, we had to leave the set because we couldn’t carry on with our work knowing that our brother had passed away. We have lost a great talent.”
“It’s difficult to accept. Mr. Ibu was a remarkable man. A brother. Someone you would always want to be around, to learn from.
“I urge everyone to keep Mr. Ibu and his family in their prayers.”
Mr. Ibu’s death was confirmed on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at a hospital in Lagos. Reports indicate that he suffered a cardiac arrest.
This tragic news came just a day after the passing of another actor, Quadri Oyebamiji, also known as Sisi Quadri, in Osun State.
Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and fans of Mr. Ibu during this difficult time.
