American rapper Nicki Minaj was detained at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands for possession of soft drugs, according to reports from local media.
The incident was captured on video by Minaj, where a police officer can be heard telling her that she was under arrest. Dutch police spokesperson Robert van Kapel confirmed the arrest of a 41-year-old American woman at the airport.
In response to the incident, Minaj took to social media to express her frustration. She mentioned that her luggage was taken without her consent and noted that Amsterdam is a place where weed is legal. The rapper was reportedly en route to Manchester for a concert at the Co-op Live venue that same evening.
Despite the delay in opening the doors to the concert, the status of the show was uncertain as of 20:30 with thousands of fans waiting in the venue. The BBC has reached out to Minaj’s representatives for a comment on the situation.
