A former employee of Kanye West has filed a lawsuit accusing the famous rapper of engaging in anti-Black racism, as well as making homophobic and antisemitic remarks.
The employee, Trevor Phillips, who is Black, claimed that West often berated and humiliated him, and that he witnessed West treating Black employees worse than white ones.
Phillips was hired to work for Yeezy, West’s fashion brand, and also worked at Donda Academy, West’s private school.
According to the lawsuit, West’s career was already in decline due to antisemitic remarks he had made on social media and in interviews. Despite this, West continued with his troubling behavior, including engaging in antisemitic tirades during staff meetings at the school.
The lawsuit alleges that West made derogatory remarks about Jewish people, including claiming that they were out to get him and steal his money. He also reportedly made disturbing comments to children at the school, including threatening to shave their heads and lock them in cages.
Additionally, the lawsuit details a meeting where West praised Hitler and expressed his hatred for Jewish people. West also made derogatory remarks about gay people, claiming they were controlled by individuals like Bill Gates for population control.
The lawsuit also describes instances of discrimination towards other employees, including ordering a Black security guard to shave his dreadlocks or be fired. Phillips claims that West publicly humiliated him during a “Sunday service” at Donda Academy, leading to his termination.
Despite promising Phillips a leadership position on a farm project, West later fired him via text message, claiming he was “not on the level.”
The lawsuit seeks an injunction to prevent West from owning and operating a school in the future.
