Davido’s first baby mama, Sophia Momodu, has come out to respond to the lawsuit that the singer filed against her at the Lagos State High Court regarding the custody of their daughter, Imade.
Premium Times initially reported that Davido, through his legal representatives, requested joint custody of 9-year-old Imade, who was born in May 2015.
In the lawsuit filed on 17th April 2024 by Davido’s lawyers, Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah, and others, the singer alleged that Sophia Momodu, 37, turned down a N200 million apartment in a prestigious gated community in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, which he had purchased for the welfare of Imade. Additionally, Davido claimed that Sophia insisted he pay the nanny she hired $800 monthly as a lump sum of $19,600 per year.
Sophia Momodu, a niece of renowned journalist Dele Momodu, denied the accusations made by Davido in response to the lawsuit. She clarified through her legal representatives, Punuka attorneys & solicitors and Bimpe Ajegbomogun & Co., that she only refused to engage in any intimate relationship with the music star.
The statement further elaborated on the relationship timeline between Sophia and Davido, stating that they were together from 2014-2017 and 2020-2022. During this period, Davido provided financial support for Imade, covering expenses like school fees, rent, and other living costs. The relationship ended in July 2022, with Sophia alleging that Davido repeatedly threatened her with making life difficult if she didn’t comply with his demands for intimacy.
Moreover, Sophia claimed that Davido abandoned their daughter for over two years, choosing not to see her or acknowledge important occasions like birthdays and Christmas. She mentioned that despite her efforts, Davido has not fulfilled his financial responsibilities towards their daughter, leaving her to handle all expenses, including schooling fees and healthcare costs.
Sophia disclosed that she had attempted to establish a formal co-parenting arrangement with Davido two years ago, but the singer and his legal team were uncooperative and sought to discredit her in public using social influence and connections. She emphasized that her primary concern is for Davido to be present in their daughter’s life and provide emotional support rather than just financial assistance.
