Former Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein, is currently undergoing treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), a type of bone marrow cancer.
According to NBC News, Weinstein is receiving treatment while in prison at Rikers Island in New York, where he is facing trial on rape charges.
Reports indicate that Weinstein, who is 72 years old, has been dealing with various health issues. In September, he was rushed to the hospital from Rikers Island to undergo heart surgery.
Weinstein’s legal healthcare representative, Craig Rothfeld, declined to comment on his current health status, citing respect for his privacy.
Weinstein, who has consistently denied any non-consensual sexual encounters, was found guilty of rape charges in February 2020.
However, the New York Court of Appeals overturned the conviction in April, stating that Weinstein did not receive a fair trial.
Currently, Weinstein is in prison awaiting a retrial and faces two other criminal counts from an earlier indictment to which he has pleaded not guilty.
Despite his health challenges, including diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, and fluid in his heart and lungs, Weinstein continues to maintain his innocence.
The case against Weinstein has been closely followed, as it played a significant role in the #MeToo movement.
