Emelia Clarke, known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, recently revealed her fears of being fired from the show after suffering a brain bleed.
The 37-year-old actress experienced the brain bleed while working out at a gym in north London back in 2011.
Despite her health scare, Clarke kept her injury largely a secret from her colleagues on the show. She shared her concerns about bosses questioning her capability to continue her role on the series after the brain bleed.
To add to her challenges, doctors discovered a second brain hemorrhage in 2013 while she was still actively filming for Game of Thrones.
In a candid interview with the Big Issue, Clarke opened up about the difficulties of returning to work after her brain injury. She expressed her fears of potentially being fired and the pressure of working in front of a large audience and cameras.
After recovering from her injuries, Clarke, along with her mother Jennifer Clarke, established a charity to support individuals with brain injuries.
Their efforts were recognized earlier this year when they were both made MBEs for their work with the SameYou charity.
Clarke’s experience with brain injuries has also shed light on the understaffed rehabilitation services available. This revelation has since become a focal point of her charity’s work in supporting individuals in need of rehabilitation services.
