Ariana Grande recently addressed criticism about a change in her speaking voice after a video clip from an interview went viral.
The clip, taken from the Podcrushed podcast with actor Penn Badgley, showed Grande speaking in a deeper voice before shifting to a higher-pitched register.
Fans on TikTok commented on the difference in the pop star’s tone, which prompted Grande to explain that she intentionally changes her vocal placement depending on how much singing she is doing. She clarified that the shift was a habit she had developed over two years and also a way to protect her vocal health.
During the interview, Grande also hinted at new music in the works, following the release of her seventh studio album Eternal Sunshine. She mentioned spending time in the studio writing and teased the possibility of a deluxe version of the album.
In addition to her music career, Grande will be returning to acting later this year in the film adaptation of the stage musical Wicked. She is set to play the good witch Glinda alongside Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba, with the first of the two films scheduled for release in November.
Earlier this month, Grande announced a new remix of her track The Boy Is Mine featuring US singers Brandy and Monica. The singer, known for hits like Tears Left To Cry and Thank U, Next, is no stranger to success, having topped the charts in the UK with her last five consecutive albums.
In March, Grande finalized her divorce from ex-husband Dalton Gomez after nearly three years of marriage.
