Cameron Mathison, known for his role as Detective Mike in the popular Hannah Swensen Mystery movies, will not be returning for the upcoming 9th installment of the series. Fans are eager to know why he won’t be reprising his role in “One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swensen Mystery.”

The decision for Mathison’s departure comes after he signed a multi-year deal with Great American Media, viewed as a competitor to Hallmark. This has left many questioning the reason behind his absence from the next movie.

In the film series, Mathison’s character, Mike, plays a pivotal role in helping Hannah Swensen solve mysteries and also shares a romantic connection with her. However, with his character’s absence in the upcoming installment, the plotline will need to address why Mike is no longer part of the story.

According to an interview with executive producer and star Alison Sweeney, the in-story explanation for Mike’s absence is that he has left for FBI training in Quantico. Sweeney mentioned, “That was the decision we made for Mike,” hinting at the character’s future in the series.

Hallmark also revealed that the decision to write off Mike was influenced by the fact that in the book series the movies are based on, Mike and Hannah do not end up together. This played a significant role in shaping the storyline for the upcoming movie without Mathison’s character.

For fans eager to catch “One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swensen Mystery,” mark your calendars for April 5, 2024, when the movie will premiere at 9 pm ET on Hallmark Mystery. Stay tuned to see how the story unfolds without Cameron Mathison’s beloved character, Mike.
