Elon Musk, the billionaire behind companies like SpaceX and Tesla, had a rocky relationship with singer Grimes that finally came to an end in 2022.
The pair started dating in 2018, but after three years of on-again, off-again dating, they confirmed their split in 2021. Musk cited his busy work schedule as the reason for the breakup, as he had to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas while Grimes worked in LA.
Despite initially claiming they were only “semi-separated,” Musk and Grimes eventually ended their romantic relationship for good. However, in March 2022, Grimes told Vanity Fair that their relationship was “fluid,” describing Musk as her “boyfriend” even though they lived in separate houses.
Their relationship status became confusing after Grimes confirmed on Twitter that the two had indeed broken up again. Despite the breakup, the former couple seemed to maintain a friendly relationship, as evidenced by their interactions on social media.
During their time together, Musk and Grimes welcomed three children, with their unique names having special meanings to the couple. Their eldest son, X Æ A-Xii, was born in 2020, followed by a daughter named Exa Dark Sideræl in 2021, and a son named Techno Mechanicus in 2022.
Musk’s romantic history includes marriages to author Justine Wilson and actress Talulah Riley, as well as a relationship with actress Amber Heard. In 2024, it was revealed that he fathered twins with Shivon Zilis, an executive at his company Neuralink, and welcomed a third child with her.
