The quiet town of Hugoton, Kansas was rocked by the tragic news of the disappearance and subsequent murder of two local moms, Veronica Butler and Jillian Kelley.

The two women vanished on March 30, only to have their remains discovered on April 15, leaving the community in shock and disbelief.

Veronica Butler, 27, and Jillian Kelley, 39, were both active members of the religious community in Hugoton, Kansas. Kelley, who was married to a local pastor and worked at Willow Christian Church in Nebraska, was one of the supervisors responsible for overseeing visitations between Butler and her children.

Butler was embroiled in a custody battle with the children’s paternal grandmother, Tifany Adams, who had custody of the children due to Butler’s son being in a rehabilitation facility. On the day of their disappearance, Kelley was scheduled to supervise Butler’s visit with her children, who were meant to attend a birthday party.

The investigation into the disappearance of the two moms revealed disturbing details, including the discovery of blood, broken hammers, and a pistol magazine at the scene. Adams, along with her boyfriend Tad Bert Cullum, were among the four individuals charged with the murder and kidnapping of Butler and Kelley. The suspects were all linked to an anti-government, religious group called God’s Misfits.

The custody battle and the complex relationships among the suspects shed light on the motive behind the heinous crime. Authorities are still investigating the case, and the cause of death of the two women has not been publicly released.
