In the mid-1990s, Duvall moved to Hollywood, California, where she began her successful acting career. She even started her own production company called Think Entertainment, which focused on creating children’s programming for cable television. Her company earned her two Emmy Award nominations.

Throughout her career, Duvall received multiple awards, including Best Actress at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival for her role in 3 Women. She also won a Peabody Award in 1984 for the television series Faerie Tale Theatre.

In November 2016, Duvall appeared on Dr. Phil and bravely discussed her struggles with mental illness. Sadly, on July 11, 2024, Duvall passed away at the age of 75 due to complications from diabetes.

Her life partner, Dan Gilroy, confirmed her passing, stating, “My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley.”

Some of Duvall’s most famous films include The Shining, Popeye, Annie Hall, 3 Women, and Nashville. She also had a brief marriage to artist Bernard Sampson in the early 1970s before finding love with Gilroy in 1989.
