Karyn was a kindergarten teacher who also taught chorus, performing arts, and intervention during her tenure at the school. She began her teaching career in the district as a bilingual teacher at a different elementary school before transferring to Bret Harte Elementary.
Her husband, Vince Lombardo, spoke out about her passing, noting that she had a significant impact on the community and was known as the “unofficial mayor of Burbank.” Vince described Karyn as a magnificent person who loved her students and tried to help them in any way she could.
Tragically, Karyn’s son, Kyle Lombardo, was arrested in connection with her death. Reports say that Kyle, who has a mental condition, was involved in an altercation with his mother that resulted in her passing.
Vince expressed concern over the lack of resources available for adults with mental health conditions, emphasizing the need for better support systems.
The Burbank Unified School District confirmed Karyn’s passing and sent out an email to parents and faculty members expressing their condolences. Superintendent John Paramo described Karyn as a dedicated teacher who touched the lives of thousands of students and colleagues throughout her career.
