Harry Brewis, known by his online alias HBOMBERGUY, is a prominent British YouTuber and Twitch streamer. His rise to fame came in December 2023 when he uploaded a nearly four-hour video shedding light on multiple instances of alleged content plagiarism by a popular YouTuber.
HBOMBERGUY, who describes himself as a “gaming YouTuber, media critic, and philosopher king” on Twitter, delves into various topics such as film, television, video games, and conspiracy theories. Notably, he has been dubbed part of BreadTube, a group of left-leaning content creators, although he does not associate himself with the label.
Born as Harry Brewis in West Yorkshire, England, in 1992, HBOMBERGUY previously worked as an IT engineer and animator before pursuing a full-time career on YouTube. He gained massive popularity for his video essays critiquing Flat Earth conspiracy theorists, pick-up artists, and anti-vaxxers.
One of HBOMBERGUY’s standout moments was a live-streaming charity event in 2019, where he played Donkey Kong 64 for over 57 hours to raise funds for a British transgender charity organization called Mermaids. The event garnered over $347,000 in donations from 659,000 viewers.
However, his most viewed video to date is a comprehensive analysis accusing several content creators of plagiarism which has amassed over 17 million views in just three months. The focus of the video was primarily on James Somerton, a YouTuber known for his content on queer film theory and LGBT literature.
The video sparked significant backlash towards James, leading him to delete or privatize most of his social media accounts. In response, James released two apology videos addressing the allegations and acknowledging the impact on his mental health.
Despite the controversy surrounding his content, HBOMBERGUY continues to be a prominent figure in the YouTube community, engaging with a diverse range of topics and perspectives in his videos.
