On the 1st of May, 2024, a horrifying incident took place in New York City when Kashaan Parks allegedly sexually assaulted a woman by lassoing a belt around her neck and dragging her between parked cars.
The New York City Police Department was able to catch their prime suspect, Kashaan Parks, by releasing camera footage of the crime, leading to his arrest 10 days later.
Kashaan Parks, who was charged with first-degree rape, assault, strangulation, sex abuse, public lewdness, and harassment, was apprehended on May 10, following the shocking incident near 152nd Street and Third Avenue.
Despite being a father to a young daughter and claiming to be in a relationship, Parks has a history of criminal offenses, with previous arrests for theft of services and violent assault on a woman in 2018.
An anonymous Bronx detective expressed their belief that Parks had likely committed such crimes before due to the precision with which he carried out the attack. The detective mentioned that there may be more victims who cannot recall the assaults due to blacking out during the traumatic events.
The victim of the Bronx assault, a 45-year-old woman, shared her harrowing account of the attack, where Parks demanded sex in exchange for money, choked her with a belt, and raped her between cars. Despite blacking out during the assault, the victim was able to seek help at a nearby hospital and report the incident to the police.
Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny confirmed that the victim was able to identify Parks by his unique teeth. The victim expressed concerns about encountering Parks again, stating that he is known in the neighborhood and has previously attacked another woman.
Fortunately, with Parks now in custody, the victim and the community can rest assured that justice will be served.
