However, the 41-year-old actress has been making headlines recently for a more personal reason – after proudly coming out as queer earlier this year, following months of dating US soccer star Ashlyn Harris.
Ashlyn Harris, 38, is a former US soccer player and two-time World Cup-winning goalkeeper. She began her career in 2010 with Washington Freedom before transitioning to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in 2014, playing for teams like Washington Spirit, Orlando Pride, and NJ/NY Gotham FC. After retiring in 2022, Ashlyn continued to capture attention for her dating life.
Ashlyn was in a long-term relationship with fellow soccer star Ali Krieger for over 13 years, and the couple got married in 2019 and had adopted two children by 2022. However, in September 2023, the pair divorced, with court documents stating that Ashlyn described their relationship as “irretrievably broken.” Following the split, Ashlyn found love again with Sophia in October, and the two have been happily together ever since.
Sophia first came out as queer in a self-written article for Glamour magazine titled “I Finally Feel Like I Can Breathe.” In the article, Sophia expressed her gratitude for the love and support she has received from the queer community throughout her life as an ally. She described her sexuality as existing on a spectrum and revealed that she feels most comfortable identifying as queer.
Sophia has had two previous marriages – first with Chad Michael Murray, whom she met on the set of One Tree Hill in 2003, and later with Grant Hughes in 2020. Both marriages ended in divorce, with Sophia and Grant parting ways after 13 months of marriage. Despite the break-ups, Sophia maintains good relationships with her ex-partners, continuing to share a rescue dog with Grant and collaborating on a non-profit organization.
