Christian Brueckner, a convicted German rapist, became an official suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2022.
Earlier this year, Brueckner was in court in Braunschweig, facing allegations of raping three women and sexually molesting children in Portugal.

Metropolitan Police took over the investigation into the disappearance of toddler Maddeleine McCann during a family holiday in the Algarve in May 2007 — codenamed Operation Grange.
The Met’s investigation led to German prisoner Christian Brueckner being named a “significant” suspect. He was born in Germany in 1976 and later moved to Portugal in his late teens. Brueckner, who was 30 at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance, has previously been convicted of sex crimes against young girls.
German police have claimed to have “concrete evidence” that Maddie is dead, and they believe Brueckner initially planned to rob the McCann’s holiday apartment before turning to a sexual motive.
A new search for Maddie’s body was launched in May 2023 in a remote Algarve reservoir, the Arade Dam, that Brueckner is believed to have used and called his “little paradise”.
