Adam Granduciel is a household name in the indie rock music scene as the frontman for the band The War on Drugs.
Born Adam Granofsky, Granduciel was raised in Massachusetts to Russian-Jewish immigrant parents. He adopted his stage name while attending school in Boston, a nod to his artistic ambitions and the inspiration he found in his French teacher.
After graduating college, Granduciel moved to Philadelphia and met Kurt Vile, with whom he formed a close musical partnership. Together, they produced lo-fi music and eventually started the band Kurt Vile & The Violators. In 2005, Granduciel formed The War on Drugs, which has since released several critically acclaimed albums.
Beyond his work with The War on Drugs, Granduciel has collaborated with various artists, showcasing his versatility and creativity in the music industry. In 2014, he even contributed to Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, highlighting his range as a musician.
In his personal life, Granduciel began dating actress Krysten Ritter in 2014. The couple shares a son named Bruce Julian Knight Granofsky, born in 2019.
Despite their low-key approach to their relationship, the couple celebrated their tenth anniversary in June 2024, displaying their commitment to each other and their growing family.
