David Temple, a former high school teacher and football coach, made headlines when he was convicted of his wife Belinda Lucas’ murder after evidence linked him to the crime scene. The investigation took years to conclude, but ultimately led to Temple’s arrest.
Belinda Lucas, who was also a high school teacher, was tragically shot at her home in Texas while eight months pregnant with her and Temple’s second child. Initially, the crime was thought to be a home invasion, but further investigation revealed a sinister plot.
Temple was found guilty of murder on November 15, 2007, and sentenced to life in prison. However, after serving nine years, his conviction was overturned due to withheld evidence by the prosecution. Despite this, Temple was found guilty of Belinda’s homicide for the second time on August 6, 2019, and sentenced to life in prison once again on April 21, 2023.
Throughout the ordeal, Temple maintained his innocence, claiming that there was no evidence pointing towards him as the killer. The case of David Temple and Belinda Lucas will be revisited on February 26, 2024, in an episode of ABC’s 20/20 titled Bad Romance: Shattered Love.
