Slot was born in Bergentheim, Netherlands on September 17, 1978.

His playing career began in 1995 with Zwolle, where he spent seven years in midfield and scored 50 goals in 164 appearances.

Slot played for NAC Breda for five years and Sparta Rotterdam for three years, before returning to Zwolle.

He became a successful youth coach at Zwolle after retiring from playing in 2013.

After working as an assistant at Cambuur and AZ Alkmaar, he eventually became the head coach at AZ Alkmaar in 2019.

Slot had a successful stint at AZ, leading the team to a strong start in the 19/20 season before eventually leaving for Feyenoord.

At Feyenoord, he achieved significant success by reaching the Europa Conference League final and winning the Dutch League title.

Slot is known for his “sexy” and “attack-minded” style of football, similar to Pep Guardiola’s approach.

Liverpool was in talks with Feyenoord to secure Slot’s services, eventually offering £8 million to release him from his contract.

Jurgen Klopp announced Slot as his replacement on May 16, 2024, confirming that Slot would be taking over as the new Liverpool manager next season.
