Following the tragic murder of volunteer firefighter Jon Hickey in his Upper Fells Point home, investigators managed to piece together the details of the killing using surveillance footage and a surprising witness.

Dateline NBC’s true crime exposé, The Killer On Camera 4, delves into Jon Hickey’s murder and the case against Daniel Greene. The episode is set to air on Friday, March 1, 2024, with streaming available on Peacock the following day.

Who is Daniel Greene?

Initially appearing to live a normal, quiet life, Daniel Greene turned out to have a few secrets hidden beneath the surface. Despite being married to Jennifer Greene with two children, he was engaging in an affair with a woman named Jennifer McKay, whom he had known since elementary school.

Greene even went to great lengths, fabricating divorce and custody papers, using a corporate credit card for her expenses, and renting a separate home to continue their relationship in secrecy.

However, in early 2017, McKay and Greene ended their affair, and McKay moved on to date Jon Hickey, another volunteer firefighter. Unfortunately, this relationship was cut short by a tragic event.

What happened to Jon Hickey?

On November 30, 2017, Jon Hickey was found dead in his southeast Baltimore home, leading to an investigation by the Baltimore Police Department. Evidence pointed to Daniel Greene as a jealous and dangerous suspect, with footage showing him breaking into Hickey’s home and committing the crime before fleeing the scene.

McKay was crucial in identifying Greene as the culprit, having dated him previously and recognizing his actions. Police arrested Greene in December 2017, uncovering incriminating evidence on his wife’s laptop related to stalking McKay and Hickey.

Despite efforts by his defense team to challenge the evidence, Greene received a sentence of life in prison plus 20 years for first-degree murder, home invasion, and firearm use in a felony violent crime.

As of March 1, 2024, Daniel Greene is serving his sentence at the Western Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland, under the state’s Department of Corrections.
