R Kelly, the chart-topping R&B star, has faced allegations of sexual abuse for over two decades.
However, it wasn’t until 2021 that he was found guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking. The shamed star was convicted of sexually abusing his 14-year-old goddaughter and engaging in sexual misconduct with two other minors during the 1990s.
During the 2022 trial, multiple victims testified, detailing how Kelly subjected them to perverse and sadistic behavior when they were underage. The court heard horrifying details of how the victims, some as young as 14, were mistreated and forced to endure unimaginable acts of violence.
In February 2023, R Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his heinous crimes, adding to his previous 30-year sentence in June 2022. The disgraced musician will serve both sentences concurrently, meaning he will spend a significant amount of time behind bars.
Currently, R Kelly is incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Complex in North Carolina. This marks a stark contrast to his earlier days in the music industry when he rose to fame with hits like ‘Ignition’ and ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ in the 1990s and early 2000s.
