Olam Agri’s Grains business is making significant strides in promoting health and hygiene standards in the baking sector with its “My Healthy Baker” initiative.
The nationwide health screening program has already reached over 3,800 bakers in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions, with plans to expand to major regions in Ghana by 2024.
The initiative, which kicked off in 2022, is led by Olam Agri’s Grains Business and involves a team of medical professionals providing health screenings and hygiene education to bakers. Bakers who pass the health checks receive food handling certificates, certifying their ability to maintain optimal food safety standards.
Business Head, Mr. Soumya Saxena, highlighted the positive impact of the initiative on the bakery sector, emphasizing the importance of health and hygiene education in daily operations. Participating bakers have expressed their gratitude for the program, noting how it has improved their baking skills and hygiene practices.
Next year, the “My Healthy Baker” initiative aims to reach over 65,000 bakers nationwide, helping them meet legal requirements for annual health certificates and promoting food safety in communities. The next phase of the project will target bakers in Cape Coast, Takoradi, Agona Swedru, and Winneba.
