Olam Agri trains underprivileged children in baking through the “Big Baker” project

Olam Agri’s Grains Business, known for its state-of-the-art wheat mill in Tema and its position as a leading manufacturer of wheat flour in Ghana, has partnered with the Ennoble Africa Foundation to empower underprivileged children in Accra.

Through the “Big Baker” project, more than 250 children have been trained in essential baking skills since its launch in September.

The aim of the project is to equip young individuals with valuable skills and mentorship, nurturing their entrepreneurial potential and providing them with practical skills for future success.

Ennoble Africa Foundation, a non-governmental organization specializing in vocational skills training for orphans, has been instrumental in making this initiative a success.

Soumya Saxena, Business Head for Olam Agri’s Grains Business, stressed the importance of education and skills development in breaking the cycle of poverty.

“Olam Agri is convinced that education and skills development are critical for breaking the cycle of poverty. By providing opportunities for these children to learn valuable skills, we hope to inspire them to pursue their dreams and contribute positively to their communities,” Saxena stated.

Dulcie Delali Attipoe, Team Lead for Ennoble Africa Foundation, echoed this sentiment, highlighting how the project lays a solid foundation for the children’s future by teaching them life skills that promote self-sufficiency.

In addition to the “Big Baker” project, Olam Agri has been dedicated to creating significant social impact through various initiatives aimed at community empowerment.

This year, the company launched a nationwide health screening program for over 6,000 bakers under the “My Healthy Baker” initiative, promoting healthy practices and improving food safety standards in the baking industry.

Other programs such as the Grains Hygiene Standard Management (GHSM) and “Grains of Friendship” have also been implemented to enhance food safety and foster collaboration within the industry.
