The pioneer of Kizomba dance in Ghana, Ebo Anderson Jr. also known as Kizomba King, has unveiled his innovative contribution to the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) by designing the dance communication concept for community engagement.
On Monday, November 11, 2024, the NCCE launched the Dance to the Beat Peace Campaign with the aim of promoting political tolerance in preparation for the upcoming December 7 general elections.
The theme of the campaign, “Promoting Political Tolerance through Dance,” targets the youth and aims to utilize dance and music as tools for public engagement.
In an interview with Channel One TV, Kizomba King explained that he crafted the dance communication moves for the NCCE to facilitate community engagement.
By using dance to convey messages about civic rights and political tolerance, the campaign seeks to create a more inclusive and peaceful electoral environment.
Kizomba King elaborated on the effectiveness of dance communication by stating, “The NCCE is mandated to educate Ghanaians on their civic rights through voting, but communication can be challenging due to how people perceive politics.
I designed dance communications because the youth, the community, everybody responds positively to dance.”
He further expressed, “Once someone dances for you, the person automatically becomes a friend. So, I designed this initiative for NCCE for community engagement.
I initiated it in 2020, and it was well-received. This year, the NCCE decided to continue the campaign, and we are now reaching out to various communities.”
The Dance to the Beat Peace Campaign promises to be a creative and engaging approach to promoting political tolerance and civic education through the universal language of dance.
It serves as a unique initiative to foster a sense of unity and understanding among Ghanaians during the election period.
