Dr. Ben Abdallah hails Nana Asaase’s poetry prowess

Renowned playwright and educator, Dr. Mohammed ben Abdallah, has praised Nana Asaase for his extraordinary talent in poetry and language.

The accolades came after Nana Asaase delivered a captivating performance at the launch of the Private Actors Welfare Scheme, which took place at the Accra Marriott Hotel on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

Impressed by Nana Asaase’s spontaneous act, Dr. Abdallah couldn’t help but express his admiration for the poet’s exceptional skills.

He compared Nana Asaase to legendary poets like Mohammed Ali, known for creating poetry on the spot, urging others to watch videos of Ali to understand the comparison.

During the event, while holding hands with Nana Asaase, Dr. Abdallah emphasized, “This man is a poet,” further highlighting the lyrical prowess and artistic flair of the talented poet.

Nana Asaase, a Ghanaian poet, writer, and literary coach, is celebrated for his unique blend of English and Twi in his works.

He has showcased his talents to diverse audiences, including presidents of Ghana, the King of England, Prince Charles, corporate leaders, academics, and art enthusiasts both within and outside Ghana.

Having been mentored by prominent figures in Ghanaian literature, such as Prof Kofi Anyidoho, Nana Asaase has garnered recognition for his linguistic dexterity and the seamless flow of his compositions.

He has also been featured on various local and international media platforms, including BBC and CNN’s ‘African Voices,’ showcasing his literary expertise worldwide.

Dr. Mohammed ben Abdallah, a seasoned playwright, lecturer, and former politician, has made significant contributions to the arts scene in Ghana.

His innovative theatrical style, known as Abibigro (African Play), merges Western and African dramatic traditions, pushing the boundaries of storytelling and performance art.

With a rich history of accolades, including winning the Randolph Edmund’s Award for his play ‘The Slaves,’ ben Abdallah continues to be a trailblazer in the African literary landscape.

His work reflects a fusion of diverse African and diasporic influences, underscoring the role of the storyteller as a visionary and avant-garde figure.

As a testament to his impact on Ghanaian culture, ben Abdallah played a pivotal role in establishing the National Commission on Culture and the National Theatre of Ghana, housing renowned resident companies like the National Theatre Company, National Dance Company, and National Symphony Orchestra.
