Can you take e-cigs and cigarettes in hand luggage? Does Easyjet permits customers?

There are numerous items that are banned from being taken onto flights. You may be wondering whether e-cigarettes are allowed in your hand luggage, and we have the answer for you. Vaping is strictly prohibited on board most airlines.

Though the majority of airlines allow you to have your e-cigarette in your hand luggage, using it on board could result in you being banned from flying.

Easyjet permits customers to carry e-cigarettes and two extra batteries in their cabin bag. Ryanair also allows e-cigarettes on board but has a strict no-smoking policy. British Airways and Jet2 have similar rules to Easyjet regarding e-cigarettes in hand baggage.

Regardless of the airline you are flying with, you need to ensure you have followed the safety requirements for batteries and liquids.

Cigarettes are generally permitted in hand luggage, however smoking them on board is prohibited. Smoking on a plane goes against airline policies and can result in hefty fines or even arrest.

Most airlines will also allow you to carry a lighter, which must be on your person during the flight, and placed in a plastic bag for screening before boarding. Matches and lighters cannot be carried in hand or checked-in baggage. If you are returning to the UK, you are permitted a certain amount of cigarettes before having to pay tax. If you exceed the allowance, you will have to declare the goods and pay the necessary tax and duty. The Government guidelines state the tobacco allowance is as follows:
– 200 cigarettes
– 100 cigarillos
– 50 cigars
– 250g tobacco
– 200 sticks of tobacco for electronic heated tobacco devices

You are allowed to split the allowance, for example, bringing back 100 cigarettes and 25 cigars.

If you enter the EU from the UK, you can bring goods free of VAT and excise duties within the limits set out. Countries within the EU may have a higher or lower limit depending on local regulations.
