Can you take an electric shaver in hand luggage?

Electric shavers are a quick and handy way of keeping your facial hair neat and tidy. Here’s everything you need to know about taking the electronic equipment onto a flight.

As a large percentage of people use electric shavers in their daily grooming routine, they are an essential aspect of many people’s hand luggage — especially those who wish to arrive at their destination looking their best. However, there are strict rules regarding what can be packed in carry-on luggage and checked bags.

When travelling from a UK airport, you are allowed to carry your electric shaver with you. However, they will need to be removed from your hand luggage when going through the security screening process. The Government website gives a list of electrical items that you can carry with you in your hand luggage.

Electric shavers make up part of a list of items which are allowed on flights, including travel irons, e-cigarettes, hairdryers and hair straighteners. There is no problem with carrying your electric shaver’s charger on board either.

However, straight razors, safety razors with removable blades, refillable razors or individual razor blades are not permitted in hand luggage for safety reasons. These items can be packed in your checked luggage.

If you prefer, you can carry an electric shaver in your suitcase rather than in your hand luggage. The only devices that the Government website indicates cannot be carried in your suitcase are e-cigarettes due to the lithium battery.

Airlines have differing rules – with size and number of cases being one of them. The rules are not only based on the airline’s policies and regulations, but they also refer to a country’s laws too. It is best to check your airline’s website as well as the country’s laws before heading off on your holidays or business trips.

For example, vaping is banned in numerous countries around the world, especially the Middle East and south east Asia. If travelling to Australia, nicotine vaping products must be accompanied by a valid prescription. Vaping is legal in places such as Spain and Turkey but there are restrictions on buying products and where you can vape.

It is best to check your airline’s website as well as the country’s laws before heading off on your holidays or business trips. This is to avoid having to deal with airport officials once you arrive at your destination. Make sure that you also check airport regulations to see whether they have any specific regulations on what can and cannot be carried in your checked luggage.

If restricted items are discovered in your luggage prior to boarding, all airlines have the right to confiscate anything they consider to be dangerous. Therefore, it is important to carefully check and follow all rules and regulations when it comes to carrying electric shavers and other items on flights.
