For decades, Burger King has been a staple in the fast food industry, serving up their famous flame-grilled burgers like The Whopper since 1954.

However, in April 2024, rumors began circulating on social media that the beloved fast food chain was closing down its operations, leaving fans in a frenzy.

The rumors started when a photo with a sign that read “Sorry, we’re closed” began to circulate on Facebook, causing panic among Burger King enthusiasts. Many took to social media to express their sadness at the thought of losing their favorite burger joint.

Despite the uproar, it was later revealed that the closure of Burger King stores was actually part of a plan to modernize the chain. The parent company, Restaurant Brands International (RBI), announced that they would be closing some locations to implement necessary changes to improve the overall health of the company.

RBI’s CEO, Joshua Kobza, assured customers that even with the store closures, Burger King remains focused on remodeling hundreds of locations and increasing the number of franchises in the next five years. In fact, Burger King’s sales rose nearly nine per cent following the news of the store closures.

Founded by James McLamore and David Edgerton, Burger King has grown to over 18,700 locations across 100 countries under RBI’s ownership. Along with Burger King, RBI also owns Tim Hortons, Popeyes, and Firehouse Subs, solidifying their presence in the fast food industry.
