Ghanaian gospel musician Josh Laryea recently expressed his concern over the abundance of songs in the gospel music industry that focus on material success rather than spiritual upliftment.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, the head pastor of Kharis Centre International at La in Accra urged a shift in focus back to the true purpose of gospel music.
Reflecting on his own experiences, Josh Laryea admitted to being influenced by songs with prosperity messages in the past. He emphasized the need for gospel musicians to refocus on delivering messages that draw people closer to Christ and improve their lives.
According to Pastor Josh Laryea, the prevalence of pastors preaching sermons centered on material success has contributed to the shift in the focus of gospel music. He believes that what people hear influences their beliefs and actions, leading many gospel musicians to prioritize songs that resonate with popular themes.
Despite acknowledging the importance of relevance, Josh Laryea cautioned against compromising the spiritual mandate of gospel music for the sake of commercial success. He highlighted the risk of creating a culture where individuals prioritize their financial status over their relationship with God.
