The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has announced plans to host a concert for emerging musicians in Ghana on March 6, 2024. The President of the Union, Bessa Simons, shared this exciting news during the launch of Ghana Month on Joy FM.
The concert, in collaboration with the Akwaaba Festival, will provide a platform for young and up-and-coming musicians to showcase their talents at the National Theatre’s forecourt. This initiative aims to shine a light on these budding artists who may not typically have access to large stages and audiences.
In addition to the concert, MUSIGA intends to organize a music and tourism workshop and health screening for musicians on March 5th at the Accra Tourist Information Centre. Furthermore, a project titled “Let’s Play Ghana Music” will kick off on March 11, 2024, to reignite people’s love for Ghanaian music. Another concert planned for March 30, 2024, at the Gold Coast Restaurant will focus on promoting highlife music.
During the Ghana Month celebrations, Joy FM will dedicate its programming to playing 99.7% local music, including genres such as highlife, hiplife, reggae, dancehall, gospel, and folk music. This move aligns with efforts by various advocates to boost the visibility and appreciation of Ghanaian music.
Listeners can look forward to more entertaining and educational content on Joy FM throughout the month as the station celebrates Ghana’s culture and heritage. This initiative underscores the importance of supporting and showcasing the diverse musical talents that Ghana has to offer.
