Man who harassed Cheryl must wait for sentence

A man who has confessed to harassing popular Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Tweedy will have to wait to receive his sentence, a judge has recently announced.

Daniel Bannister, aged 50 and with no fixed address, has been remanded in custody as his sentence is pending. He made an appearance via an online link at a magistrates’ court hearing in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, on Monday.

Although the case was scheduled for sentencing, a lawyer informed District Judge Arvind Sharma that the sentencing could not proceed as a pre-sentence report concerning Bannister’s health had not been finalized.

Tweedy, also known as Cheryl Cole, was residing in Buckinghamshire at the time of the offense committed by Bannister.

Bannister had previously pleaded guilty to charges of harassment, breaching a restraining order, and attempting to breach a restraining order during an earlier phase of the legal proceedings.

During Monday’s hearing, Bannister raised the issue of sentencing and inquired whether there was a possibility for the sentence to be delivered that day even without a finalized report. However, the judge determined that it would not be fair to impose a sentence without the report and postponed the case until 14th March.

The judge expressed understanding for the delays in the case but stressed the importance of knowing Bannister’s health situation before proceeding with the sentencing, as it would not be fair to make a judgment without such information.

Bannister was informed by the judge that if a prison term is handed down, the time spent on remand awaiting sentence would be considered as part of that term.

Tweedy did not attend either the hearing on 30th January or the one on Monday.
