Abena Ruthy, the 2nd Vice President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has clarified that hiplife musician Kwadee is not a member of the union. Despite this, she emphasized that MUSIGA has provided support to Kwadee in the past and is willing to assist him on humanitarian grounds.
In an interview with Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Abena Ruthy reiterated MUSIGA’s commitment to improving the living conditions of its members. She encouraged MUSIGA members to contribute to welfare and insurance policies, dispelling the misconception that every artist automatically belongs to the union.
Abena Ruthy also mentioned that in 2018, MUSIGA led by Ras Caleb Appiah visited Kwadee at the Willing Ways Foundation rehabilitation center in Kumasi and made donations to him. However, there are recent reports indicating a deterioration in Kwadee’s mental health.
Despite Kwadee not being a member in good standing, MUSIGA remains dedicated to supporting him and other musicians in need. The union sees itself as a family that provides assistance to those facing challenges in the industry.
As the music industry grapples with issues of mental health and well-being, organizations like MUSIGA play a crucial role in supporting their members during difficult times.
