Byno Ayoni, the winner of Mentor 12, has opened up about the challenges he has faced in his music career.

Despite performing well at auditions, he often faced rejection due to his albinism. He explained that he was told he did not look marketable and would not be able to perform at night because of his condition.

However, Byno expressed optimism that more people are beginning to appreciate his talent, leading to a reduction in the stigma associated with albinism. He also expressed pride in winning the ultimate prize in Season 12 of TV3’s Mentor reality show.

Signed to Edem Goget’em’s Volta Regime Music Group, Byno has released songs such as ‘I Dey Like’ and has collaborated with Edem on various projects.

Despite the challenges he has faced, Byno remains confident in his talent and is determined to use his platform to advocate for inclusivity for people with albinism in society.

The discrimination against albinos is a prevalent issue in African society, with myths and misconceptions leading to stigmatization and even violence. One example of someone who overcame such challenges is Salif Keita, a successful musician from Mali who faced ostracism in his community but went on to achieve international fame.

Byno Ayoni’s determination to challenge stereotypes and promote inclusivity aligns with Salif Keita’s efforts to combat the stigma associated with albinism. Through his music and influence, Byno aims to raise awareness and create a more accepting society for individuals with albinism.
