Dancehall artiste, Epixode, has recently come out with shocking revelations regarding the release of his socio-political song, ‘Wahala Dey’. The artiste disclosed that he faced numerous threats following the release of the song, with threats coming in various forms such as phone calls and even physical attacks.
During an interview with Amelley Djosu on Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz, Epixode shared the challenges he faced after the song’s release, stating that there were occasions where he had to abruptly end his stage performances due to the controversial message conveyed in the song.
“When we dropped ‘Wahala Dey,’ I was getting threats and phone calls. There were events that I’m on stage and they are asking me to stop performing so I had to lay low for awhile. Because I may be the one in front but the family may suffer for what I’m doing,” Epixode expressed.
The song, released in 2019, delves into the current state of Ghana’s economy and questions the popular statement made by Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, ‘Ghana, your beloved country is free forever’. Epixode also highlights issues such as the sale of government contracts, celebrities living beyond their means, and societal pressures leading to hardships in the economy.
However, the musician’s bold messages did not sit well with some political figures who resorted to threatening his motives. Epixode further revealed that he has faced backlash and even lost deals as a result of the song. Despite the challenges, the artiste stands firm in advocating for the truth and speaking out against corruption and societal issues plaguing the nation.
Epixode emphasized that although advocacy through music may feel isolating at times, it grants him a unique power to stand with the ordinary people and address critical issues. The artiste vowed not to succumb to any forces that may hinder his voice and commitment to bringing about positive change through his music.
