Head of Public Events and Communications for Charter House, Robert Klah, has shed light on the omission of the ‘Group of the Year’ category in this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, Klah explained that the decision to exclude the category was due to a lack of competitiveness, as there were not enough groups eligible for nomination.

Klah emphasized the importance of having a sufficient number of nominees in each category to ensure a fair and competitive awards show.

He stated, “We are not saying it had been scrubbed off, but we are resting it until such a time we feel we have enough numbers in the space to compete for it.” He compared the nominees in the ‘Group of the Year’ category to other categories and noted the lack of numbers in the group category.

Furthermore, Klah clarified that nomination for ‘Group of the Year’ is not solely based on being part of a group. He emphasized that the category was intended to recognize groups on their own merits and not just because they were part of a group.

Klah assured individuals that when the group category becomes competitive again, it will be reinstated in the awards show.

He assured fans of group music that once the category regains its competitiveness, it will be reintroduced in future editions of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
