At 92 years old, Edwin Rayner found a new lease on life after the passing of his wife of 60 years. The lifelong singer, who initially felt there was no reason to carry on, now has almost half a million followers on TikTok.
Mr. Rayner, known as Grandad Sings on social media, started off singing at care homes near his home in Bournemouth, Dorset, belting out songs by his favorite artist, Elvis Presley.
His granddaughters introduced him to TikTok, and after receiving over one thousand likes in just a few days, he was hooked.
With the help of a local musician, Mr. Rayner records his favorite tracks at Sizzle Studios, with his granddaughters uploading them to social media.
He has nearly nine million views on TikTok and 150,000 followers on Instagram. Despite being unable to sell his albums due to copyright issues, he continues to create music for his family and friends.
Despite his age, Mr. Rayner believes that people should continue doing what they love, emphasizing that age is just a number. His favorite song, “The Wonder of You” by Elvis Presley, is dedicated to his late wife, Margaret, whom he feels is always with him.
