Ghanaian music sensation Safo Newman has recently addressed concerns regarding his reserved nature in a recent interview.
The musician, who gained popularity on social media earlier this year, has noticed critics and fans commenting on his introverted personality.
In a conversation with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on 103.9 FM, Safo Newman explained that he has faced criticism for not conforming to the usual expectations of Ghanaian music artists.
He believes that Ghanaians may not be open to accepting new and unique personalities because they are accustomed to a specific way of doing things.
Safo Newman also pointed out that in other parts of the world, artists with distinct styles and personas are readily embraced.
He mentioned Ukrainian-born Carpetman, American singer Melanie Martinez, and Australian singer Sia as examples of artists who have carved out their own unique identities in the music industry.
The ‘Akokoa’ singer admitted that he is naturally introverted, explaining that his reserved nature is a part of his temperament. He recalled instances from his school days where teachers misunderstood his quiet demeanor as a lack of understanding.
Despite the criticisms, Safo Newman remains unfazed and has developed a strategy to deal with negative comments. He emphasized the importance of learning to ignore trolls and unrealistic remarks while being open to clarifying misconceptions when necessary.
