Yesterday was a day of celebration for the host nation of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Côte d’Ivoire, as they clinched the trophy after defeating Nigeria with a score of 2-1. The decisive goal that secured the victory was made by Sebastian Haller, who plays for Dortmund.

With this win, Côte d’Ivoire now has three AFCON trophies, putting them on par with Nigeria. Ghanaians are also at this level, with all three countries trailing behind.

However, the defeat for Nigeria did not go unnoticed by Ghanaians, and one Ghanaian musician, Black Sherif, took to Twitter to troll his Nigerian colleagues, Odumodublvck and BlaqBonez.

Black Sherif’s attempt at trolling sparked a Twitter war between Ghanaians and Nigerians, with many joining in the banter on social media.

The Ghanaian musician claimed that he had suffered a similar fate at the hands of his Nigerian colleagues when Ghana disappointingly crashed out of the competition at the AFCON group stages.

In response, Nigerians tried to hit back at Black Sherif, leading to a heated exchange on Twitter.

Netizens had a field day reacting to Black Sherif’s tweets, with some showing support for his jabs while others tried to defend the Nigerian side. Comments from Twitter users ranged from humorous to cautionary, reflecting the intense rivalry between the two nations.

This isn’t the first time that Ghanaians have had a go at Nigeria during the AFCON, as popular social media personality Kwadwo Sheldon had also expressed his desire to troll the Nigerians ahead of the final. He promised to be present at the finals to banter with them should the Super Eagles fail to lift the trophy.

The intense banter between Ghanaians and Nigerians on social media continues, setting the stage for future AFCON competitions and cementing the rivalry between these two footballing powerhouses in Africa.
