The revered Golden Stool, also known as Sika Dwa, took center stage at the Adae Kese festival on Sunday, May 12, 2024, as part of the grand durbar celebrating the 25th anniversary of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The stool, a symbol of unity and strength for the Asante people, was paraded through the public for all to see.
Traditionally, it is carried by the “Nkonwasoafohene,” a local chief, to special events.
However, social media buzzed with rumors that the carrier of the stool was a Professor of Human Biology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
This claim was debunked by Luv News, who identified the carrier as Nana Baffour Dabanka, a long-standing businessperson involved in the clothing trade in AshTown, Kumasi.
Nana Baffour Dabanka has faithfully carried the Golden Stool for 28 years, serving under both the previous and current Asantehene.
Despite the misinformation spread on social media, he clarified that he did not study Human Biology or any related field.
The responsibility of carrying the Golden Stool is a cherished tradition for him and a symbol of his allegiance to Asanteman.
