Several Kumawood movie stars have come forward to explain their reasons for supporting and campaigning for President-elect John Mahama in the recent elections.
Big Akwess, Christiana Awuni, and Okomfo Kolege revealed that their decision to rally against the Akufo-Addo administration stemmed from unfulfilled promises to address the challenges facing the film industry.
During an appearance on Daybreak Hitz, the actors shared their motivations for backing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate. Christiana Awuni, adorned in NDC attire, expressed that her support was a celebration of John Mahama’s victory and a call for better governance in Ghana.
Christiana Awuni emphasized that the Creative Arts Industry goes beyond just entertainment and that they were advocating for improvement in the sector. She highlighted the need for a government that would support the youth and address the hardships faced in the creative arts industry.
Adding to the conversation, Big Akwess recalled a meeting with President Nana Akufo-Addo in 2015 where promises were made to address the challenges of the Kumawood industry.
However, he expressed disappointment in the NPP government for failing to fulfill their promises, such as the establishment of a film village and regulation of foreign content.
The actors also mentioned their discussions with John Mahama, who they believe will prioritize the needs of the creative arts industry. Okomfo Kolege expressed optimism for the industry to thrive under Mahama’s leadership, citing his previous support for the sector.
