Renowned Ghanaian comedian Clemento Suarez has recently revealed that his inspiration comes from none other than legendary Uruguayan footballer Luis Suarez.
Luis Suarez made headlines during the 2010 World Cup quarterfinal match between Uruguay and Ghana.
His infamous handball incident occurred in the final minute of extra time, denying Ghana a shot at the semifinals. Despite being awarded a penalty kick, Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan missed the opportunity, leading Uruguay to victory in a penalty shootout.
This controversial moment in World Cup history prevented Ghana from becoming the first African nation to reach the semifinals of the competition.
However, it served as the inspiration for Clemento Suarez, who credits Luis Suarez for making a name for himself in the entertainment industry.
During an appearance on Channel One TV’s ‘The Chat’, Clemento Suarez expressed his admiration for Luis Suarez and how the incident shaped his career.
He shared his motivation behind his stage play “YOU PLAY ME I PLAY YOU”, which will be showcased at the National Theatre and Bukom Boxing Arena in November 2024.
The production, written by the late playwright Efo Kodjo Mawugbe, features a talented cast including Clemento Suarez, Jeneral Ntatia, and Brain Jotter, under the direction of Fiifi Coleman.
