Monalisa Abigail Semeha, popularly known as Mona Gucci, has been cleared of fraud allegations after being accused of deceiving a trader of GHC103,400.

The Accra Circuit Court acquitted and discharged Mona Gucci, a Travel/ Event Consultant, who allegedly took the money from Comfort Obiri in February 2019 under the pretense of securing American visas for her clients.

Despite the charges of defrauding by false pretenses, Mona Gucci pleaded not guilty to the accusations. The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Frimpong, presented three witnesses during the trial.

However, the Defence Counsel argued that there was no clear evidence to support the case against Mona Gucci, leading to a submission of no case.

In his ruling, Mr. Isaac Addo, the presiding judge, classified the situation as a “civil matter” that had gone awry. As a result, Mona Gucci was acquitted and discharged by the court.

The case revolved around Comfort Obiri, a resident of Ofankor, Accra, who was introduced to Mona Gucci by a third party as someone who could facilitate American visas.

Mona Gucci reportedly assured Comfort Obiri of acquiring the visas for GHC40,000 each and subsequently took a total of GHC103,400 from her and three others in the same vein.

Despite promises to refund the money, Mona Gucci allegedly failed to deliver, prompting the fraud accusations.

The court’s decision to acquit and discharge Mona Gucci shed light on the complexities of the case and the lack of concrete evidence to prosecute her.
