Actor and politician John Dumelo has recently found himself embroiled in controversy following an altercation with a University of Ghana student at a voter registration centre in Legon.
The student, known as Dacosta, confronted Dumelo over restrictions on his phone usage at the centre, leading to a heated verbal exchange that almost turned physical before security officers intervened and escorted Dumelo away.
In the aftermath of the incident, a political commentator took to social media to report that Dacosta had suffered serious injuries and was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
However, it was later discovered that the photo of a bloody knee attached to the post was unrelated to the incident and did not even occur in Ghana.
Responding to calls for legal action against the individual spreading false information, John Dumelo dismissed the idea, citing the impracticality of suing someone without substantial means.
He explained that in legal terms, it would be challenging to enforce any financial judgment against such a person, stating, “In law, it is advisable not to sue a man of straw. If I sue, it will take him 68 years to pay.”
