Popular actor and politician, John Setor Dumelo, has recently sparked controversy on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), with his comments regarding Ghana’s “anti-gay bill.”

Critics online have been quick to accuse the actor and aspiring parliamentarian of being wishy-washy on the issue, leading to intense debates among netizens.

The bill, which is currently being reviewed in Ghana’s Parliament and awaiting presidential approval, has drawn widespread criticism both locally and internationally for potential human rights violations.

During a recent interview on Star FM, Dumelo voiced his support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stance on the bill, emphasizing the party’s dedication to upholding “family values” in Ghana.

“I stand with the NDC, they have passed the anti-LGBTQ+ bill so that’s my position. I am not against what they do in their bedroom, it’s their private life,” Dumelo stated.

Despite aligning himself with the NDC’s position, Dumelo refrained from explicitly stating his personal opinion, citing a desire to respect individuals’ privacy.
