Former Ghanaian Big Brother Africa housemate and entrepreneur, Mimi Adani, recently opened up about the reasons behind her divorce after eight years of marriage.

In an interview with Amelley Djosu on Joy Prime’s Celeb Biz, Mimi revealed that her divorce was a result of emotional and mental abuse, narcissistic behavior from her ex-husband, manipulation, and excessive cheating.

Mimi expressed her belief that many women are afraid to leave abusive marriages due to societal expectations and lack of financial empowerment. She emphasized the importance of mental health and encouraged women in similar situations to be brave enough to walk away for the betterment of themselves and their children.

She shared, “For me, it was emotional abuse; there was cheating as well, manipulation, and narcissistic traits, which are very dangerous. I couldn’t survive it; I tried, but I couldn’t, so I had to just move on; it’s as simple as that. There was no physical abuse or anything like that, but cheating and narcissism were the causes of my problems, and they were affecting me mentally.”

Despite acknowledging that divorce is not an ideal situation, Mimi believes it is necessary when there is unbearable silent suffering. She stressed that a successful marriage cannot be forced when one party knows the union is failing.

Mimi Andani, who was married to Nana Michaels in 2016 and blessed with a daughter, hopes that her story will inspire other women trapped in toxic and abusive marriages to prioritize their mental well-being and have the courage to leave.

It is essential for women to empower themselves financially, as Mimi noted, “I also think that women who don’t empower themselves are always scared to leave the marriage, even when they are abused emotionally, because if they go back to their parents’ houses to complain, they’ll push them back and ask who will take care of the kids. But if you empower yourself like me, I went easy like ABC.”
