Popular Ghanaian musician turned political activist A Plus has put President Akufo-Addo’s government under the spotlight for the recent power outages that have plagued the country.
In a scathing post on his Facebook page, A Plus shared a tweet from 2012 where then-opposition leader Akufo-Addo criticized the ruling administration for power disruptions. The activist reminded the president of his previous stance on frequent power outages and pointed out the current challenges facing the nation.
Expressing disappointment in the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, A Plus emphasized that the government has failed to live up to the expectations placed on them, especially in resolving the ongoing power shortages.
Not only A Plus, but popular actress Yvonne Nelson has also joined the chorus of voices calling on the government to address the intermittent power outages. In a tweet, Nelson urged President Akufo-Addo to find a lasting solution to the issue, stressing that “DUM SOR is DUM SOR whether it’s for an hour, 12 hours, 24hrs, or every day. FIX IT!”
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has attributed the recent power outages to 630 distribution transformers in communities across its operational zones being above capacity due to increased power consumption. The ECG warned Ghanaians to expect more power outages during peak demand hours between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.
As Ghanaians continue to grapple with the challenges of power shortages, calls for the government to address the issue and find a lasting solution are growing louder.
It remains to be seen how President Akufo-Addo’s administration will respond to these criticisms and work towards resolving the power crisis affecting the nation.
