Renowned Ghanaian blogger Albert Nat Hyde, also known as Bongo Ideas, has reportedly gone missing, causing alarm among his followers and activists.
Social media reports suggest that Bongo Ideas was apprehended by unidentified police officers in the early hours of Friday morning, with no information disclosed about his whereabouts or the reason for his arrest.
Despite efforts by his family to track him down by visiting various police stations, Bongo Ideas’ location remains unknown.
The situation has caught the attention of Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the Convenor for the #FixTheCountry movement, who has connected Bongo Ideas’ disappearance to his recent criticisms of First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
Bongo Ideas had made controversial statements about President Akufo-Addo’s marriage to Rebecca Akufo-Addo, leading to speculation about a potential correlation between his remarks and his alleged abduction.
Expressing worry over the incident, Barker-Vormawor stressed the importance of upholding democratic principles and denounced any misuse of state power to stifle dissenting voices. He stated, “Even if Bongo Ideas had been insulting me for 30 years, I will still show up and advocate for him if the State abducts him at night for talking uncharitably about the First Lady.”
Supporters and activists continue to demand answers regarding Bongo Ideas’ disappearance and call for the respect of freedom of expression and due process.
