Afrobeats singer, Asake, won the Best African Music Act award at the 2024 MOBO Awards held in Sheffield, United Kingdom, on Wednesday, February 7.
Beating out top contenders including Davido, Burna Boy, and Grammy-winning South African singer, Tyla, Asake now joins the ranks of a select few Nigerians to have won this prestigious award.
The MOBO awards, known for celebrating black musical artistry in the UK and globally, awarded a diverse range of music, with no one artist dominating at the ceremony.
Some of the other notable winners at the event include Central Cee, Raye, and Potter Payper who took home the Album of the Year award for ‘Real Back in Style.’
Other categories celebrated winners from a wide variety of musical genres, such as R&B/soul, hip-hop, grime, jazz, alternative, electronic/dance, and gospel, as well as recognitions for the best producer and lifetime achievement.
The event also honored iconic figures in the entertainment industry, with Lifetime Achievement, Impact, Paving the Way, and Pioneer Awards being given to those who have made a lasting impact on music and culture.
With his impressive win at the MOBO Awards, Asake has once again cemented his place as one of the foremost and celebrated artists in the Afrobeats genre on a global scale.
